It is believed that the river turns itself into sanctity spots filled with primordial amrita at the historic moment of the Maha Kumbh Mela. The story behind this Kumbh Mela was “During Samudra Manthan, a pot (nectar of immortality or Amrit) appears and both Devas and Asuras(demons)want to grab it. After that Devas ran to save the nectar from Asuras and trying to hide it. This fight takes 12 days( which is equal to 12 years as for humans) and during this fight, the drop of nectar fell into four different places on earth (Haridwar, Ujjain, Nasik, and Allahabad). That’s why this Kumbh Mela celebrates every 12 years in these places.
